Rotorua Team News and Information

This is where we will post news and information relating to taking a team to the National Summer Games in Christchurch, from the 10th -14th December 2025.More information will be posted here as it comes to hand. Update (April) - Logo added, team number corrected and flights booked.
The team will now fly down on Tuesday 9th December and  back on Monday 15th December, from and to Rotorua and Tauranga.  On our Links page, under the  Main Menu, is a link to Special Olympics NZ's official NSG 2025 website which has more information about each sport and venue plus the schedule.
Our team was announced at our prizegiving at the end of last year. It includes athletes who are non-travelling reserves, meaning they will only be part of the team if they are asked to replace a team member who cannot go. Official entries are due in by July but changes can be made up until October. Usually there is a cut off date in October after which no more changes can be made. We are taking a team of 56. There are 39 athletes and 17 volunteers in five sports. These are the team members; see our photos of all the athletes here: NSG 2025 Sponsorship form.pdf  The official NSG Entry form was submitted to Special Olympics NZ on 11th July.
Team list updated 13th November.

National Summer Games Results for Team Rotorua.
Events are divisioned according to ability. Usually the highest division is 1 except in swimming where the lower divisions start at 1 and can go up to about 25. The number of competitors in each division can vary from 3 - 8. In tenpin, a very popular sport, there were 8 places in each of the divisions so it was more difficult to win a medal.
We had seven athletes competing in their first NSG; six of them won a gold medal in football and bocce and one won a silver medal in swimming.
